An intimate haven in the heart of Guiones where design, nature, and a laid‑back lifestyle come together. A collection of villas designed by Studio Saxe, each with its own private saltwater pool, along with a spa and fitness studio, all just a short walk to the surf, restaurants, and shops. Nalu, meaning “wave” in Hawaiian, and Makai, “toward the ocean,” reflect how we live here: close to the sea, close to the jungle, and always going with the flow. Makai Villas is our elevated extension of Nalu — a limited set of ocean‑view homes where every bedroom, living space, and pool is oriented to the horizon, so your days naturally move with the tides and the light.
We are a couple from New York City that kept coming to visit Nosara to get away and enjoy some warm water surf and yoga classes in the jungle.
Each time our visits kept getting longer and longer. We always dreamt about moving to Nosara, but that seemed impossible! We had our first child in New York, but barely had the opportunity to spend any quality time with her because of our demanding jobs and long hours. So by the time we had our second child, we decided to take the leap. We took a 9‑month trial run living in Nosara and by the end of the first month, we decided we were never moving back.
Here we are eight years later, full‑time residents of Nosara, loving life and enjoying time with our family in the sun and surf! We opened up our own little oasis called Nalu. We wanted to create a place where families and friends can stay, where you feel safe and relaxed, where you can live a healthy lifestyle, and where kids can run free.
So we hope you will come stay with us — and sure enough, we will try to persuade you to move down here too…

Our stay in the Nalu Nosara villa was a fantastic experience! The villa was beautiful, extremely clean, beds were comfortable, water pressure was fantastic, and the villa had everything we needed. The entire staff were great and the booking, check-in, and departure process was simple. The location was an easy walk to the beach and all the restaurants and shops that Playa Guiones has to offer. We will definitely stay here again next time we return.
Nalu is truly one of the most stunning places we have stayed throughout our travels. The villas had everything you could need, the interiors were comfortable and beautifully designed. Even when you were inside, the walls of glass gave you the feeling of being in a lush jungle. When you stepped outside, you felt like you walked into a magical garden with your own pool. Fabiola was wonderful and went out of her way to be incredibly helpful. If they have space, book it!
This house is absolutely gorgeous. It was immaculate, spotless, and beautifully designed. The décor is stunning and the tall ceilings make the entire space feel so luxurious. The sunset view from the pool was such a treat every night. Steve, the host, was amazing and extremely responsive and helpful. Their concierge team was fantastic — they sent great recommendations and even arranged our golf cart rental and alcohol delivery before we arrived. We would 100 percent stay here again.
Nalu was absolutely beautiful and a wonderful home base for my family of 4. The location is great — close to the beach, restaurants and shops — and Nalu's gated compound was an unexpected safety feature we appreciated. Lots of thoughtful inclusions to ensure guests enjoy their stay. Absolutely loved the workouts and friendly locals who attend the classes! Nalu did not disappoint and we look forward to our return.
